The Slowest Race on Earth
The Cigar Smoking World Championship (CSWC), celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2019, will host a qualification round at Astor Bar, St Regis Kuala Lumpur on Saturday 16 March.
Trinidad Cigar Company brings this glamorous lifestyle event to Malaysia after CSWC’s previous Asian qualification events in Bangkok and Saigon in prior years.
There are tremendous prizes up for grabs, including an entry ticket to the Grand Final. The event itself will be a celebration of cigar culture and those not participating are invited to enjoy a cigar and a drink and watch the event.
The Challenge
The CSWC was founded by Marko Bilic (pictured above)who will be in KL for the Qualification Event. Competitors are challenged to smoke the Macanudo Inspirado Mareva, a mareva sized-cigar (42 x 5 1/8), for the longest period of time. The cigar must stay lit the entire time and once the flame goes out, so too does the competitor’s chances of victory. The Macanudo Inspirado Mareva has been especially created by Macanudo Cigar for the CSWC with superb quality control ensuring everyone has an equal chance to win.
Qualification events take place in cities around the world, with winners invited to take part in the CSWC Grand Final in Split, Croatia in September.
The current CSWC Champion is Mr Hauke Walter from Germany, who smoked his cigar at the 2018 Grand Final for 2 hours, 48 minutes and 8 seconds. The current CSWC World Record Holder is Mr Darren Cioffi from the USA, who has an unbeaten time of 3 hours and 24 minutes.
